The 4 packaging trends of the future according to Tetra Pak

According to Tetra Pak this will be the future of packaging. Recently, the packaging company published the Tetra Pak Index 2018 study, which analyzed various trends that the company will characterize packaging in the coming years.

The study involved 5 countries and their consumers, all accompanied by interviews with online retailers in Europe, the United States and China. The goal was to identify the main drivers of growth in the sector and understand the dynamics of online sales, in order to provide food and beverage industry ideas.

The main trend is the one that sees more and more consumers preferring online shopping, a concept that leads to an inevitable transformation even of traditional stores that will become more and more “omni-channel” to welcome the consumer of the new millennium.

And it is precisely this transformation in the purchase of consumer goods that will forever change the way of thinking and making packaging. The packs will have to adapt to a more “fluid” style of consumption and management.

The 4 packaging trends of the future

1 – Increasingly advanced technolog

The packaging and packaging are becoming more and more technological. Integrated chips, RFID, smart labels, but also new and innovative materials will be the norm. But not only that: technological changes will also affect the entire supply chain, which will continue to transform thanks to technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID), automation and robotics.

2 – Sustainability

This is a trend that is changing entire sectors. In packaging it is no different: today plastic is slowly being replaced by more sustainable solutions, such as organic and biodegradable materials. Furthermore, recycling is gaining ever greater importance: therefore lighter packaging, less impact on the environment (lower emissions and lower costs) and above all more efficient in terms of the space occupied.

3 – Practicality and functionality

More dynamic consumers require more dynamic packaging. One of the trends will be precisely that of practicality and functionality. Packaging with ergonomic shapes but also suitable for frequent movements (remember the omni-channel trend). Practical packaging, easy to use but also to reuse.

4 – Personalization and uniqueness

Packaging is the first interaction between consumer and product. For this reason, in the future, packs will always be an integral part of the products contained within. Therefore more and more personalization and greater uniqueness in proposing the product. In this way, the same packaging will be considered a brand, a way to build a relationship with the consumer beyond the product itself.

These are the trends that will change the packaging more and more over time.
