The supermarket of the future? Fully plastic-free

The future is the time of innovation. Artificial intelligence, cars that drive by themselves, excursions in space: the increasingly advanced technologies promise this and much more.

It rarely happens instead of thinking about how we will manage our everyday reality. Precisely for this reason we asked ourselves a question …
How will the supermarkets of the future be?

Judging by the latest trends, completely without plastic. These forecasts are already a reality in a Dutch supermarket, where a totally plastic-free lane was inaugurated. The shop is part of the Ekoplaza chain and in the department there are 680 organic products stored in compostable or recyclable packaging. By the end of the year, the management intends to include a plastic-free department in each of the 74 stores spread across the country. The first steps in the right direction England preceded Holland in this ethical battle. The English supermarket chain Iceland was the first to reduce the use of plastic by replacing the traditional frozen food carton with recycled paper bags. Over the next 5 years they plan to completely eliminate plastic packaging from their line products.

Even British policy is taking action: in fact, Theresa May is encouraging the search for solutions to reduce the excessive use of plastic.
At the same time, the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has a plan to help change the situation. It wants to install numerous public fountains in the city available to citizens and tourists. In this way he hopes to limit the use of disposable plastic bottles and, consequently, also the amount of waste. From the 50s to today, 6.3 billion tons of plastic were produced and we recycled only 9% (source: A Plastic Planet). One of the founders of A Plastic Planet, Sian Sutherland, stated that “there is absolutely no logic in wrapping something as ephemeral as food into something indestructible like plastic. Food and drink wrappers are useful for a few days, yet they leave a presence on Earth for centuries “.

Activists continue to wonder why humans are able to eliminate gluten, fats, lactose and then fail to conceive of a life without plastic. We are dependent on this material, which is ruining the planet in which we live day by day. Awareness on social networks Did you ever look at your shopping cart and think “how much plastic!”? No? Some Spanish bloggers did it and spread a movement on social networks that identifies with the hashtag #svestilafrutta, literally translated from the original Spanish #DesnudaLaFruta. The activists have proposed to consumers to photograph and post on social networks cases in which the packaging is exaggerated for the product that contains (for example, the segments of a mandarin spread on a whole tray of polystyrene). Sharing these images they hope to get more media attention and to change the situation. The importance of packaging is undeniable because it guarantees the conservation of the products we buy. But to hope to sell you have to listen to consumers, their needs and preferences.

Your customers could also follow this campaign. And maybe share photos of your goods.
If so, do not improve the packaging of your products could be very expensive.
